Los Angeles, Aug 26 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Sean Penn has not stopped his criticism of Jean Wyclef’s decision to contest for the highest seat in Haiti.

Sean has been critical at the hip hop artist’s decision to run for the presidency in the country because according to Sean, Wyclef was significantly missing in action when Haiti was rocked by a devastating quake earlier this year, that claimed the lives of more than 300,000 people in the capital.

Jean Wyclef announced his intentions to run for Haiti’s presidency earlier this month but the country’s electoral officers blocked that decision because Wyclef fails a constitutional clause to enable him do so.

Haiti’s constitution stipulates that to be eligible to stand for presidency in the country, one must live in the country continuously for at least 5 years prior to the date of the election and that is what Wyclef have not been able to so. He is domiciled in the United States.

After the ruling, Wyclef announced his intentions to appeal the decision and that decision did not go down well with Sean Penn.

In his defense, Jean Wyclef said that, “The first thing I’d like to say to Sean Penn is that the area which he operates in Haiti is one area in particular. He hasn’t seen me for six months—I’ve been going to Haiti for over five years…I am not absent in Haiti, maybe the tent city you’re in, maybe I’m absent in that…My country is not a city of tents, meaning I can’t use the excuse of people living in tents to say that I’m going to make Haiti a better place.”
