Actor James Gammon dies due to cancer

james1 Los Angeles, July 19 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Hollywood actor James Gammon has died at the age of 70. He is survived by his wife Nancy and their children.

The actor reportedly passed away in his daughter’s home in Costa Mesa California in the company of his family as a result of adrenal and kidney cancer.

The actor earned name and fame when he starred as Lou Brown, the manager of the Cleveland Indians in the hit comedy “Major League” and its follow up in 1994. He also starred in other blockbusters such as “Cool Hand Luke”, “Urban Cowboy” and in recent times “Cold Mountain” and “Don’t Come Knocking”.

He was also successful for his various roles on the stage as well. He featured in a couple of plays by Sam Shepard and was one of the founders of Los Angeles MET Theatre. He also got lots of awards for his direction skills and his onstage performances from the Los Angeles Drama Critics’. He was also known for his part in plays such as “Bus Stop,” “Picnic” and “Dark at the Top of the Stairs.”

“His is a performance cut from flesh — a riveting, drunken, brawling, blind portrayal of a man at sea in a life he had abandoned years before, too long ago to ever hope to find it again,” according to theater critic Sylvie Drake in a review in The Times of a MET production.
