Actor James Gammon dies at the age of 70 years

james1 Los Angeles, July 18 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Actor James Gammon has lost his battle with cancer. Gammon died in his home on Friday at the age of 70. He is survived by his wife of 38 years - Nancy and their two daughters.

The LA Times reported on Sunday that a memorial would be held next month for Gammon at the MET Theater in Los Angeles. It ought to be mentioned that John Gammon helped formed the MET Theater in 1970’s.

James Gammon’s highest achievement in Hollywood was when he acted as baseball manager Lou Brown in the movie, “Major League”. However he was also successful in movies like “Cold Mountain”, “Silverado” and “Urban Cowboy”. He also featured on TV series like “Grey’s Anatomy” and “The Waltons”.

Gammon received many Los Angeles Critics Awards for his acting roles and for directing as well.

Gammon was an outstanding stage actor as well. He appeared on many plays by the renowned writer Sam Shepard. A colleague at the MET - Paul Koslo said though Gammon was great in movies and on TV series, his great presence and power was in his live stage performances. “He did a lot of movies and TV, but I think his great presence and power was on the stage. He always had something unexpected, riveting and real,” according to Paul Koslo, who is an actor and director who had worked with Gammon at the MET.
