Slipknot Bassist June 22, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): The police reported that the well known bassist of the Slipknot, heavy metal band had died of a morphine overdose. This was revealed on Monday after an autopsy on the body. The examination showed the presence of a synthetic substitute of the drug, Fentanyl as well.

The bassist, Paul Gray, was found dead in his hotel room at Des Moines. The hotel operator reporting the incident revealed the existence of several pills as well as a hypodermic needle near the corpse.

The press release by the police also revealed certain facts like the symptoms of a heart disease. However, they are sticking to their stand of death being caused accidentally by an overdose.

The spokesperson for the police, Sgt. Dave Disney, also said that they were trying to discover how Gray had obtained the drugs in the first place. These drugs, he explained, could not be bought over the counter and need a medical prescription. No such doctor’s prescription has been uncovered from Gray’s room or body as yet.

The Slipknot band, when contacted, declined to comment on the incident. The official company for Slipknots, Roadrunner Records, which is based in New York, said that the band’s reaction would be posted on their official website. However, there has been no comments posted so far.

The contact numbers of his wife Barbara or Corey Taylor, who had been a co founder of the slipknot were not recovered immediately.

Paul Gray had been famous for giving performances in grotesque masks replete with wild thrashings and dark, despondent lyrics.

The band had won the Grammy in 2006 for its song “Before I Forget.”
