Academy Awards 2010: Oscar Red Carpet Fashions

aw Mar 8 (THAINDIAN NEWS) From flowing gowns to Burberry suits, the Red Carpet at last night’s Academy Awards was a colorful, beautiful bouquet of silk and jewels. This year seemed to be all about color, and many of those who wore it, wore it well.

Maggie Gyllenhaal was one of the many whose wardrobe involved a bright splash of color. Her dress, designed by Dries van Noten,(who also designed her wedding dress) had an oriental look that not many could get away with, but Maggie managed to pull it off beautifully.

Speaking of beautiful, Sandra Bullock absolutely took the cake last night. With her shimmering floor length Marchesa gown covered in beaded golden flowers that climbed their way across her dress and up her torso, Sandra was breathtaking. She looked old Hollywood elegant with her straightened hair swept to one side, and bright red lipstick made it all pop.

Meryl Streep arrived wearing a very simply white, robe front dress, that really did not impress much in itself, but Meryl made the dress, the walk, everything around her look elegantly beautiful. Cameron Diaz wore Oscar de la Renta in a frothy, glittering, white and gold gown that was very flattering as it swept around her slim figure.

And then there was Gabourey Sidibe. This is her first Academy Awards attendance, and she did a terrific job. The child skipped school to audition for the part of “Precious,” and suddenly here she was, on the red carpet, arriving to compete with the likes of Meryl Streep, and Sandra Bullock, but she was poised, mature, and beautiful in a blue gown with silver flowers and vines creeping across her bosom, a fairytale come true.
