Academy Award Nominated Actress Jill Clayburgh Dies At 66

jill1Lakeville, Nov 7, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Academy award nominated actress Jill Clayburgh passed away on Friday leaving her family and friends mourning over her death. Her family confirmed that she breathed her last at her Lakeville, Connecticut home after living two decades with leukemia. She was 66-years-old.

The renowned actress was known for her role as a hopeful and determined woman in “An Unmarried Woman”, “It’s My Turn, ” among others. Her daughter Lily Rabe took a temporary leave of absence from her Broadway show owing to her mother’s illness. Jill Clayburgh’s husband playwright David Rabe said that the actress battled against leukemia for more than twenty years. Jill Clayburgh played the role of an independent woman who manages to live her life in her own term after her husband leaves her for another woman. She was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Actress for her film “Starting Over” where she shared the screen with Burt Reynolds and Candice Bergen. A reputed media source called her the first generation of young actresses who regularly “portrayed characters” that stemmed from “new feminist ethos”.

In one of her previous interviews, Jill Clayburgh said that she feels people look at her and they think that she is a “lady like” character. However, she said that “ladylike” character is not something she performs best, according to her, she gets into the skin of the characters who are coming apart “at the seams”. The “Starting Over” actress’ death has brought in a wave of sorrow to the whole film fraternity and all the renowned actors and actresses are expressing their condolences at the unfortunate demise of Jill Clayburgh. Her last film “Bridesmaids” has not yet been released.
