Dr. Lisa Dabek, associated with the zoo, took part in an exciting expedition made to the secluded forests of Papua New Guinea. It was a revelation and many facts were revealed about the habitat and lifestyle of these cute and adorable wild animals. The residents of the rain forests in Papua New Guinea refer to the Tree Kangaroos as spirits of the forest, owing to their elusive nature. It is the only place where these creatures can be seen.

They have a habit of climbing up tall trees and one can find them only on such trees, much above the ground. The scientists are yet to figure out why this rare breed of kangaroos moved deep inside the rain forest and live on the trees. Around 10,000 tree kangaroos can be found in the wild while a few are seen in various zoos worldwide. Lisa Debek, who acted as the guide for ABC, is a devoted Kangaroo lover and she has resolved to save the endangered species from extinction.

However, the tree kangaroos are very shy and it is pretty difficult to locate them. Lisa Dabek found it quite difficult to trace these animals when she started her work. However, after a few years of hard work she found some tree kangaroos in the wild and also managed to fix radio collars on their necks. The Kangaroos that have been given radio callers can be traced now though they still prefer to stay on tree branches and keep away from people.
