Aamir Khan, Kiran Rao: Dhobis’ Reservations Over ‘Dhobi Ghat’ Have Been Harmoniously Resolved

(DG), her husband, Aamir Khan, and Kiran herself have expressed remorsefulness to the members of the ‘dhobi’ (laundryman) community if they had hurt their feelings. However, as per the two, the reservations of the laundrymen have been amicably resolved.
At a press meeting, Aamir Khan has remarked that the last few days have enlightened him a lot. He had interacted with Khatriji, Kanoji and Dr Satishji, the members of the laundrymen’s associations. During the conversations, Aamir comprehended that the film’s team might have unintentionally injured some laundrymen’s emotions. Aamir and Kiran have remarked that they express their regret if that was the case. He has colossal respect and affection for his ‘dhobi’ brothers across India. Kiran has asserted that she inscribed the script honorably and has no maliciousness towards the dhobis.
There were complaints about the movie’s name from the Akhil Bharathiya Dhobi Mahasanga (ABDM) as well as the Akhil Bharatiya Dhobi Samaj (ABDS). There was a conversation with the heads of these associations, for whom DG was screened, with them being informed that DG was named after a site in Mumbai also referred to as DG.
However, the ABDM as well the ABDS viewed the movie, subsequent to which they were satisfied that DG didn’t malign the laundrymen, with the performance of Prateik Babbar, a laundryman in the film, being lauded by them. Aamir has remarked that the request then was to alter DG’s title to ‘Mumbai Diaries’, which would have been tough with the film’s release nearing, notwithstanding which Aamir consented to their plea. But on seeing Aamir’s earnestness and the crises he would have to encounter for the change of name, the associations abolished their objection to the current name.
The ABDM’s objection was that, as dhobi is a caste, DG was really wounding them when they witnessed its posters. However, they have now witnessed the film and are contented as DG has supplied mammoth reverence to the laundrymen.
Aamir Khan is one of the legendary actors in the Hindi film world, who has almost unceasingly enacted characters in blockbuster Hindi films, with his perfectionism being revered by the budding actors in Hindi movies. Some of his recent successes consist of the gigantically triumphant, Three Idiots; Ghajini; the broadly admired ‘Taare Zameen Par’, etc.
