7 Khoon Maaf – Is The First Trailer Revealing Enough?

, she sets along this path again. In this film adaptation of Ruskin Bond’s book ‘Susanna’s Seven Husbands’, Priyanka is out to prove her talent.
In the 2 minute 42 second trailer, we see Priyanka change from glam doll to plane Jane with the change of husbands. It has been made very clear at the very beginning that the film is about Susanna’s quest for love. And in that quest she had to be with not one but seven husbands. The film is a journey showing Susanna from 20 to 65 years of age with husbands of varying age groups.
Her first husband, Niel Nitin Mukesh, flaunts an aviator and a moustache as Major Rodriques. John Abraham, as Jimmy, kisses his new bride in the church and both look blissful. Next Piggy Chops is seen as the simple biwi of Wasiullah, played by Irrfan Khan. She goes on to shake a leg with husband Vronsky, played by the Russian actor Aleksandr Dyachenko. Annu Kapoor, as Keemat the old husband, tries to cheer up his offended wife with a teddy bear. The high point of the trailer is Naseeruddin Shah, as Tarafdar, and the aged Priyanka Chopra sharing a piece of cauliflower. The youngest son of Naseeruddin Shah, Vivaan Shah also plays one of her husbands.
In the following cuts the trailer throws light on the effect of the husbands on Susanna and her reactions. There is a quick succession of moments where she is merrymaking and flashes of violence. Bhardwaj makes it a little difficult to comprehend who is the victim here but he creates that desire in us to see the film to fill up the gaps.
With the makeup done flawlessly by Academy Award winner Greg Cannom of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button fame, Priyanka sizzles in all her seven avatars.
Although the trailer does not show any of the ‘khoons”, as it should have, we are left in complete awe and curiosity as the last cut shows Priyanka saying “this time I’m going to drink his blood”. Her evil laughter rings in the ears even after the trailer has ended.
The trailer makes us eagerly wait for February 18, the day Susanna will light up the silver screen.
