Jan 12, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The 16th Nokia Star Screen Awards 2010 was a truly spectacular event and the movie buffs watched the broadcast with rapt attention. The bigwigs of Bollywood were all present at the ceremony and it was a hard fight among the best movies of 2009, as well as the actors. The best film award went to Rajkumar Hirani directed “3 Idiots”, the Chetan Bhagat controversy notwithstanding. The film, which has proved to be the biggest hit of 2009, beat other contenders like ‘Love Aaj Kal’ and Vishal Bhardwaj’s ‘Kaminey’. Another heavyweight was ‘Paa’, which lost out in the best film category but won in several other segments. ‘3 Idiots’ won in various categories.

The best actor and actress award were bagged by Amitabh Bachchan and Vidya Balan, both of whom acted in ‘Paa’. Kavita Seth won the award for the best female singer for her excellent vocal range displayed in ‘Wake Up Sid’s Ore Manwa track. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan trounced the competition in the best male playback category for his ‘Love Aaj Kal’ track Aaj Din. A.R.Rahman won the best music director award for his mind blowing music in Delhi 6.

‘Dev D’, said to be a modern retake on Devdas, won in some categories too. Mahi Gill won the award for the most promising new comer. Nandita Das, an ace actress turned director this year with the brooding ‘Firaaq’. The movie fetched her the most promising debutante director award. It was 3 Idiots that dominated the ceremony. From the feedback of the viewers it is clear this movie will win many more awards in upcoming awards ceremonies.
