According to reports, a man has supposedly been arrested in relation to the hit and run accident that has taken the life of former “American Idol” contestant, Alexis Cohen. Reports seem to suggest that the police have arrested a 23 year old man hailing from Toms River, New Jersey, in relation to the accident that had taken place on Saturday, July 25.
Authorities said that Daniel Bark was arrested at 6 p.m on Sunday in Atlantic Highlands. The charges that he is indicted with are of causing Cohen’s death by indulging in reckless driving, then fleeing the scene of the crime following the accident (equivalent to second degree manslaughter). He had hit Cohen with his 2005 Mitsubishi Gallant.
Cohen had sustained critical injuries on her abdomen and, chest and head, as has been revealed in her autopsy reports, because of the accident. She had been found by two passersby at 5 a.m on Saturday morning, lying unconscious on the road. They had immediately alerted the 911. All attempts at reviving her were unsuccessful and she was declared dead two hours later at the Community Medical Center in Toms River. It is reported that Alexis Cohen’s body had been found lying 350 yards away from her car (where she had been struck down). It is not very clear though whether she had been hit while she was making her way to the car or walking away from it.
If Daniel Bark is convicted of the charges brought against him, he faces a sentence of up to 10 to 15 years in jail. He is presently being held at the Ocean County Jail in Toms River for a $35,000 bond.
Cohen’s funeral is supposed to be held on Friday at 9 a.m at the Knopp Funeral Home in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
