Christoph Waltz Bangkok, Feb 25 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Nominees: Matt Damon, Invictus; Woody Harrelson, The Messenger; Christopher Plummer, The Last Station; Stanley Tucci, The Lovely Bones; Christoph Waltz, Inglourious Basterds.

Every year there is one category that gets a minimum amount of ink (or electrons) devoted to its discussion because nearly everyone is confident they know who will win. This year, it’s the Best Supporting Actor category, and the man with the stamp of approval from nearly every award-giving body out there is Christoph Waltz in Inglourious Basterds.

Almost completely unknown outside of Germany before Quentin Tarantino picked him for his alternate-reality WWII splatter-fest, Waltz completely owns the film, displaying an finely nuanced blend of outgoing geniality and homicidal psychosis not seen since Anthony Hopkins hissed about a bottle of Chianti and some Fava beans. He’s won pretty much every major award for his role so far; why stop now?

Greg Jorgensen has been scouring the back alleys and lurking in the movie theaters of Bangkok since 2001. His biggest regret is getting a Gold Class ticket for Star Wars Episode 2: Attack of the Clones.

Who do you think will win the best supporting actor? Let us know via the comments below.
