Robin Hood at cannes May 12 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The 2010 Cannes Festival, which kicked off today, Wednesday May 12, opens with the action packed adventure, “Robin Hood”. This begins the 11 days of movie mayhem which is the Cannes Festival on the French Riviera.

Robin Hood, which is the latest of Cate Blanchett’s films, was directed by Ridley Scott, and stars Russell Crowe who plays the part of Robin Hood, to Cate Blanchett’s Marion. The movie is one of the very few American movies which are present at this year’s festival, due to the tough economy which has kept much of the star power away from the Cannes Festival. May be the main reason is the (financial) crisis, because cinema is an industry … which needs a lot of money,” festival director Thierry Fremaux told Reuters in Cannes. “As we all know, everywhere in the world money is not something very easy to find and especially to make a film with. But I think also it’s a coincidence. Maybe next year we will have three, four, five American films.”

Robin Hood is sue to be out in theaters on May 14 in the United States and on May 12 in France, coinciding with the Cannes Festival dates of May 12- May 23.
