2009 Emmy Nominations Announced

The Emmy Awards is the most prestigious of all awards that aims to recognize the efforts of the television industry, a podium where the best get their due recognition. Every year therefore, there is generous amount of buzz during the time when the nominations are announced. The complete list of the 2009 Emmy Award Nominees is out for all to see now. Yesterday, July 16, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences made the list of the nominations public.
The complete list is a lengthy feature and those who are willing to see it have to download almost 40 pages PDF file. However, most of the excitement always surrounds the categories of Best Drama, Best Comedy as well as Best Actor and Actress.
Shows like “Big Love”, “Californication”, “Dexter”, “Entourage”, “True Blood” and “United States of Tara and Weeds” has each been nominated in at least one category. In fact, Showtime’s “Dexter” has been nominated in three categories. AMC’s “Breaking Bad” is listed in five categories. The popular show “Damages” has an overwhelming seven nominations in various categories and “House” has three nominations. “Lost” has been nominated in five different categories. The immensely popular series’ successful run at the Emmys is not something new, previous records show that it had been nominated thirty-nine times in the past and has won eight times. “Mad Men” has hogged the major share of nominations this year, securing in 16 categories.
Glenn Close has secured a nomination in the category of Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, making this her twelfth Emmy Nomination. “Jon & Kate plus 8″ has a dry patch with the Emmy this year, with being unable to secure any nomination in the reality categories as “The Amazing Race”, “American Idol” and “Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List” took up space.
The 61st Prime time Emmy Awards is scheduled to be held live at the Nokia Theater in L.A. and will be telecast on CBS on the 20th of September at 8:00 ET.
