London , May 27 (ANI): Almost a century after the Titanic surrendered itself to the Atlantic waters, the first model of the doomed ship has been erected on the lines of the original plans, with a price tag reading 1.3 million pounds.

The model is a 1:48 replica of the White Star liner that sank 96 years ago, on April 15, 1912, after hitting an iceberg on its maiden voyage from Southampton to New York , claiming more than 1,500 lives.

The smaller reproduction of the ship is made from brass, wood and fibreglass, in a span of seven years relying on the plans, drawings and measurements from the original liner, reports The Telegraph.

The model was constructed by the Harland and Wolff yard in Belfast and Fine Art Models, a modelmaker from Michigan , after the original plans were first released.

Standing at the height of 18ft, the replica features a hull made of fibreglass with brass plating, held together by more than 3.3 million rivets.

In fact, every bulkhead on the 1,500lb replica is located at the same position as the original 882ft, 46,328-ton liner, which cost 1.5 million pounds to build at that time.

The models decking is all made from wood, as is the deck furniture, also crafted to scale. (ANI)
