127 films from 38 countries to be shown at Kolkata film fest
November 2nd, 2010 - 12:51 am ICT by IANSKolkata, Nov 1 (IANS) Altogether 127 films from 38 countries, including Satyajit Ray’s documentary “Sikkim”, will be shown at the 16th Kolkata Film Festival to be held here Nov 10-17, West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee said here Monday.
“Altogether 127 films from 38 countries will be shown, spread over eight venues. The documentary Sikkim’ directed by Satayjit Ray will also be screened,” said Bhattacharjee addressing a media meet.
The eight-day film carnival kicks off Nov 10 with the Costa Rican film “Of Love and Other Demons” directed by Hilda Hidalgo. The film is about an adolescent girl born in a noble family who is never given the chance to determine her own future. Later on her family, thinking she is possessed by a demon, abandons her.
The festival will have 12 segments such as celebration, centenary tribute, homage and honour.
In celebration section, four films based on Rabindranath Tagore’s stories will be shown.
In the centenary tribute category, films directed by legendary Japanese film maker Akira Kurosawa will be shown.
