‘Black Swan’ And ‘The Social Network’ Are Among The Catalog Of Films To Have Been Nominated For Different Screenplay Awards At The WGA
January 5th, 2011 - 9:56 pm ICT by Pen Men At WorkJanuary 5, 2011 (Pen Men at Work): Colossally triumphant movies such as ‘True Grit’ (TG) and ‘Inception’ will be competing against smaller movies such as ‘127 Hours’ and ‘The Kids Are All Right’ (TKAAR) for the acquisition of screenplay awards from the Writers Guild of America (WGA). ‘Inception’ and ‘TKAAR’ were among the contenders announced on Tuesday for the best original screenplay, in association with ‘Black Swan,’ ‘The Fighter’ as well as ‘Please Give.’ ‘TG’and ‘127 Hours’ are with a shout for modified screenplay, in company with ‘I Love You Phillip Morris’ (ILYPM), as well as ‘The Social Network’ (TSN) and ‘The Town’ (TT).
Some of the preceding year’s highly praised films such as ‘The King’s Speech’, “Winter’s Bone’ (WB) and ‘Toy Story 3’ (TS3) were barred since they were not prepared under the WGA’s contractual rules. The WGA’s conquerors will be pronounced on February 5.
Joel and Ethan Coen, who performed the task of adapted screenplay for TG, have expressed their contentment on being nominated. TG is anchored in the novel inscribed by Charles Portis. Joel and Ethan have articulated that the favorable popular response to their film has excited them. They voiced their gratefulness to their colleagues.
TSN is rooted in the tome, ‘The Accidental Billionaires’, authored by Ben Mezrich. The adapted screenplay for the film was executed by Aaron Sorkin, who has vocalized his pleasure on his movie being acknowledged by his peers at the WGA. He has remarked that his existence in such a respected catalog of nominees instills joyfulness in him. Sorkin has acquired a preponderance of the critics’ trophies hitherto for TSN.
‘127 Hours’ was founded on a book, ‘Between A Rock And A Hard Place’, inscribed by Aron Ralston. The adapted screenplay for the film was the responsibility of the successful Danny Boyle and Simon Beaufoy. Beaufoy had been awarded the WGA award two years back for the well-liked ‘Slumdog Millionaire’. Beaufoy has asserted jocosely that, for a writer, the toughest cluster to satisfy is the community of his fellow writers. These writers are aware of the site in which another writer executed his coffee breaks and the place from which the writer thieved the jokes. He vocalized that he is genuinely grateful to the WGA for nominating him. ‘127 Hours’ portrays a mountaineer, who dismembers his own hand in order to unchain himself from a boulder that had him trapped.
ILYPM is a film, which was mired for a long time, but which was, at last, discharged this fall. It attained an assortment of reviews. Its inclusion in the WGA’s nominees was, almost certainly, the major surprise.
