Zimbabwe seeks Karnataka’s help for skill training for youth
September 13th, 2010 - 8:50 pm ICT by IANSBangalore, Sep 13 (IANS) Zimbabwe Monday sought help of Karnataka, home to India’s tech hub Bangalore, in providing skill training for its youth, an official statement said here.
The help was sought by Zimbabwe deputy Prime Minister Arthur Mutambara during meeting with Chief Minister B. S. Yeddyurappa at Tianjin, China, where the two leaders are to attend the World Economic Forum meeting that started Monday, a Karnataka government release said.
“The discussions focused on developing cooperation and exploring opportunities for joint investment in infrastructure, minerals, ICT (Information, Communication and Technology) areas,” it said.
Mutambara proposed a joint session on Zimbabwe-Karnataka during the proposed Agri-investors meet in Bangalore in January 2011, the release said.
“He sought help from Karnataka in providing skill training for the youth of Zimbabwe” it added.
Yeddyurappa also met Nestle chairman Peter Brabeck-Letmathe and discussed expansion of Nestle plant in Nanjangud near Mysore, about 150 km from Bangalore.
Nestle’s participation in the Agri-investors meet was also mooted, the release said.
Gerald Lawless, President of Jumeirah Group, the leading real estate and hotel company in Dubai and Middle East, during his meeting with Yeddyurappa informed him that the group intends to explore setting up a hotel and other tourist related projects in Bangalore and other parts of the state, the release said.
Vinit Mittal of Welspun Group expressed interest in investing in manufacture of steel pipes, textiles, solar and thermal power and roads, it said.
Yeddyurappa is leading a delegation of senior officials and prominent industrialists and businessmen of Karnataka to the WEF meet.
