Your power bill goes up as tariff hiked in Delhi
August 26th, 2011 - 11:24 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Aug 26 (IANS) Your electricity bill has just got a massive hike with the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) Friday increasing power tariff by around 22 percent.
“We have decided to increase the rate of power tariff by 21.77 percent. This is the first significant tariff hike to take place in Delhi in the last five years and the new rates will be effective from Sep 1,” said a DERC official.
In what may come as a double whammy to the consumers, the tariff rates may go up even further as the DERC will review the rates of power tariff quarterly to match the cost of power purchase incurred by distribution companies.
For household electricity use, one will now pay Rs.3 per unit up to 200 units as compared to 245 units earlier.
The consumer will now have to shell out Rs.4.80 per unit of power for the next 200 units to 400 units while the existing rate is Rs 3.95 per unit. And if you consume more than 400 units, you will be charged Rs.5.70 per unit over the current charges of Rs.4.65.
