New Delhi, Sep 16 (IANS) Two-wheeler manufacturer Yamaha India Wednesday rolled out a super bike, VMax, priced at Rs.20 lakh.
The company also launched a limited edition of the Fazer and SZ Series models, priced between Rs.66,500 and Rs.73,500 ahead of the upcoming festive season.

“We are expecting almost three times the sales in the two months of the festive season (starting October),” said Yamaha chief executive and managing director Yukimine Tsuji.

The new superbike is powered with a 1,679 cc engine and comes in a metallic black colour.

“We are targeting selling 2.5 lakh units in India this year,” Tsuji told reporters. The company is also aiming at garnering a 10 percent market share by 2012.

Yamaha expects to sell about 95 superbikes by the year-end, including 25 units of VMax and aims to capture 30 percent market share by 2012 in the deluxe and premium bike segments.

The company had in 2007 planned to invest about Rs.800 crore in India and has invested almost 60 percent of the total amount, Tsuji said.

Yamaha also intends to double its exports from India to 1.4 lakh units by 2010. “We are confident of exporting 70,000 units of bikes this year and then doubling it to 1.4 lakh units by 2010,” Tsuji said.
