Yakult Danone expands to south India

Hyderabad, Feb 17 (IANS) Yakult Danone India Pvt Ltd. Friday announced its expansion to south India with the launch of Yakult, its probiotic health drink, in Hyderabad.

The health drink will be available in retail stores in Hyderabad from Feb 19. Launched in India in 2007, Yakult is presently available in Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Jaipur, Chandigarh and Punjab.

“Awareness about probiotic foods is fast catching up in India and Yakult has seen wide consumer acceptance in the metros. We have established a strong presence in North India and are now focusing on the southern markets,” said Kiyoshi Oike, managing director, Yakult Danone India.

“The Yakult Danone alliance in India is a result of the teamwork of two global giants in the probiotic industry,” said Jochen Ebert, managing director, Danone Food and Beverages.

First launched in Japan in 1935, Yakult is the largest selling probiotic drink globally with more than 30 million people consuming it every day across 32 countries.

Yakult Danone India Pvt. Ltd is a 50:50 joint venture between Danone of France and Yakult Honsha, Japan. The JV was formed in 2005 to manufacture and launch probiotic products in the Indian market.
