Bangalore, March 8 (IANS) Global software major Wipro Tuesday celebrated the 100th International Women’s Day by hosting a mentoring lunch of its middle management women employees across its locations.
In the run-up to the D-day, the IT bellwether unveiled “Women in Leadership - Mentoring Programme for High Potential Women” in June 2010 to enable its women employees in its flagship global IT products and services division achieve leadership roles.
“The selected employees, who underwent mentoring programme for nine months with senior leaders, had a mentoring lunch where the mentors and mentored shared their experiences,” the company said in a statement here.
To mark the occasion, the company also hosted a diversity festival on Facebook and Twitter under ‘Xprience Wipro’ where global updates on the day’s celebrations across its development centres can be posted.
“We have invited netizens the world over to join us during this festival on Facebook and Twitter,” the statement noted.
“Being true to diversity and inclusiveness in all spheres, we are conscious of the importance of engaging women in our workforce and providing them a platform to hear their voice,” Wipro talent engagement and development general manager Sunita Cherian said.
In a related development, the US-based Convergys Corporation also celebrated the Women’s Day at its India facility in this tech hub by asking their women leaders to share their success stories, highlighting how they had navigated their careers through challenging positions while remaining focused on work-life balance.
The company’s female employees were given discounted treats at the cafeteria and a tribal art expo was organised on the occasion.
“International Women’s Day is an occasion for us to celebrate and recognise the evolved role of women in the corporate world. We appreciate our women employees for their commitment and dedication in helping us achieve success as an organisation. We hope to see them succeed and continue to accomplish the highest levels of professional excellence,” Convergys country manager Hanumant Talwar said in a statement.
