Wheat arrival in Haryana markets tops 2010
May 8th, 2011 - 7:52 pm ICT by IANSChandigarh, May 8 (IANS) With 64.11 lakh tonnes of wheat so far arriving in Haryana grain markets this year, last year’s collection of 63.47 lakh tonnes has been surpassed, a minister said here Sunday.
Food and Supplies Minister H.S. Chatha said: “The total (wheat) arrival in the state is likely to be over 65 lakh tonnes this year.”
Sirsa district led among all the 21 districts in the state with wheat arrival of over 8.96 lakh tonnes. Fatehabad (6.51 lakh tonnes) and Jind (6.15 lakh tonnes) followed.
Out of the total arrival of wheat, over 64.08 lakh tonnes of wheat has been purchased by government agencies and the rest by private traders, Chatha added.
