Kolkata, May 28 (IANS) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has said a special non-resident Indian (NRI) cell will be created soon under the state finance ministry to facilitate investments from overseas Indians.
“We will set up an NRI cell under the finance ministry. Those who want to come back to Bengal and invest here can get in touch with the cell. There are many talented people who have gone out of the state. I need some time. We will set up the cell within one or two months,” Banerjee said in a teleconference with some NRIs from Bengal based in New Jersey in the US.
“We will be very happy if you come back and invest in Bengal. Those who want to invest in the state can contact the cell,” she said.
The programme was aired in a Bengali channel Saturday.
“If you want to help us, then inform the NRI cell. Prepare your package. In every week we will see the proposals,” she said.
The chief minister said IT sector in the state was not developed well and the government will take initiatives for the growth of the sector.
Holding out an assurance of a package for tourism sector in West Bengal, Banerjee said: “Tourism can be a source of revenue for the state. If proper investment and planning could be done, then the Sundarbans, Terai, Dooars and Digha would be good tourism centres.”
