We need to move ahead: Fashion Design Council chief
June 12th, 2008 - 10:00 am ICT by IANSNew Delhi, June 11 (IANS) The Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) Wednesday accepted the resignation of its executive director Sumeet Nair, saying the main task now was to focus on the upcoming edition of India’s premier fashion week. “It will be business as usual and we are working together to tide over the unexpected events,” FDCI director general Rathi Vinay Jha said in a note circulated to the board members after its meeting.
“The sanctity of the FDCI is vital and no individual is larger than the interests of the council or the designer industry. I am sure we will have your continued support,” the note added.
Nair quit Tuesday, citing irrevocable differences with the board.
Noting that Wednesday’s board meeting “was planned quite some time ago to discuss various issues”, Jha said: “However, with Sumeet’s sudden resignation, the acceptance of his resignation was tabled and accepted.
“Our immediate task is to find a new person so that the next fashion week from October 15 to 19 becomes another significant event in the FDCI’s history.
“And we have started this process straight away. We will also have on board an implementing agency to conduct the next fashion week,” the note added.
“As India’s apex fashion body comprising the country’s leading fashion designers, we have to look ahead to promote the business of fashion and the interests of our members and the Indian design fraternity.
“The council has come a long way in the last 10 years and I am confident it is strong enough to move forward with continued success,” the note said.
Jha also noted that over the past 10 years, FDCI “has grown in strength” and the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week “has become a truly national B2B fashion trade event, with a pan-India outlook.
“Our member designers hail from cities across India, north to south and east to west,” the note said, adding: “The numbers have grown with each event, testifying to the confidence India’s fashion designers have in the FDCI living up to its mandate.”
The note also said that the application form for October event “will be with you in the next few days. We look forward to your participation in this event”.
