Connecticut, Nov 18 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The U.S. government is all set to get billions of dollars in a court-ordered restitution under a new divorce decree between the behind the bars, Walter Forbes and his wife Caren. They had been married for 27 years.
Judge Howard Owens issued a ruling on Thursday that orders ‘former Cendant Corp. Chairman Walter Forbes’ ex-wife, Caren, to transfer ownership of homes in Connecticut and Rhode Island back to him, plus half of the couple’s jewelry and art collections’, the Connecticut Post reported.
The ruling will give the right to the federal government and Cendant also, to attach liens to recover almost $3.3 billion to which the court says that they are fairly entitled.
Caren Forbes had filed for divorce in January, as she claimed that their marriage was “irretrievably” broken. According to the divorce ruling, Caren Forbes will need to relinquish and also transfer ownership of the mansion back to her ex-husband, the sixty-five year old Walter Forbes, so Cendant and the U.S. government can attach it. She would also need to return about 14 acres (5.7 hectares) and a chalet-style house in Rhode Island.
