walmartJuly 25, (THAINDIAN NEWS) In a recent development, Wal-Mart Stores Inc which is one of the biggest retailers of the USA is planning to put new electronic identification tags in the men’s garments like Jeans and basics. This move is aimed at gaining more control at its inventory. However, the move has not gone down well with all and the privacy experts are worried about it. Even the innerwears sold at its outlets will get these tags. The staff at Walmart will be able to read the tags from distances with ease. They will be able to know fast what clothes are missing and if the required item is in the stock or not.

The tags work by means of radio frequency. Wal Mart actually wants to attach such identification tags to various other types of merchandise but it is likely to take quite a long time. The company feels that the step will result in better and efficient inventory management. The staffs will be able to serve the customers better resulting in increased revenue. It looks like other top merchants may follow in its footsteps.

A group named Consumers Against Supermarket Privacy Invasion and Numbering is not at all happy with this mover taken by Wal mart. It is of the opinion that the tags will result in privacy invasion. However Walmart has said on its part that the tracking tags are not attached to collect personal information of a customer. The company has said that the customers need not worry about their privacy being invaded owing to the identification tags. The retailer also plans to make the customers aware about the issue.
