Wal-Mart to pay a fine of $27.6 million in the ‘dumping case’

California, May 4 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Wal-Mart Incorporation is all set to pay a fine of $27.6 million. They reached a settlement in the infamous case in which the retail store was accused of dumping hazardous waste improperly. Wal-Mart agreed to pay the whopping amount as fine in order to settle all the allegations. It ought to be mentioned that, Wal-Mart was accused by the state of California of dumping pesticide, fertilizer, paint, aerosols and other chemicals in a very improper manner.

The dumping case dragged on for 5 years and the investigation into the case involved the services of more than 15 prosecutors and more than 30 environmental groups. Phyllis Harris looks after all the environmental concerns of the company, and she said that the company’s policies have improved and changed radically after these violations were discovered.

“Today a corporate giant has been held accountable for its actions, and Wal-Mart is cleaning up its act. This should serve as a warning to all companies doing business in the state and in San Diego County that they will not be allowed to flaunt environmental laws in place to keep our communities clean and safe — no matter how large or small the corporation” said San Diego County District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis.
