Volvo warns of unplanned acceleration in some cars
May 3rd, 2010 - 9:08 pm ICT by IANSStockholm, May 3 (DPA) Swedish carmaker Volvo has sent a letter to some 155,000 owners of certain diesel models about reports that their vehicle might accelerate, even if the driver has not touched the gas pedal, news reports said Monday.
Volvo said it was aware of some 55 incidents of unintentionally accelerating vehicles, but had no reports of any accidents.
“During service, too much oil has at times been filled and the oil can enter the combustion chamber … resulting in an increase of the number of revolutions,” spokesman Per-Ake Froberg told Swedish radio news.
Owners were advised to check the oil level and contact their dealer if it was too high, Froberg said.
The affected models were the S 40/V 50 model from 2006-2010, the C 30/C 70 model from 2007-2010, the S 80 model from 2007-2009, the V 70/XC 70 model from 2008-2009, and the XC 60 model from 2009.
