Volkswagen Recalls 16,000 Routan Minivans

volksNew York, June 13, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Volkswagen AG is the latest automaker to join the band wagon of car recalls. The car manufacturing company has recalled almost 16,000 Routan model minivans after a fault was found in its sliding door wiring that could spark fire, according to reports.

In a statement that has been issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on Friday, it was divulged that the German automaker has announced the recall of the Routan minivans on Tuesday owing to the sliding door wiring defect. The statement read that the vehicles that are being recalled by Volkswagen AG were manufactured between June, 2008 to the month of July last year.

The main reason which has propelled the esteemed car manufacturing company to recall thousands of its Routan model minivans has been cited to be the possibility of a overheated latch which might result in fire in the rear sliding door. While confirming the company’s decision to recall the large number of Routan vehicles, Kerry Christopher, a spokesperson of the automaker added that Volkswagen AG has come to know of a couple of instances of overheating in the vehicles although there has been no report of any accident or any kind of injury being caused to anyone.

The car maker has also divulged that the vehicles which the purview of recall, was developed in collaboration with Chrysler LLC and were manufactured in the Windsor, Ontario Chrysler plant of Chrysler. In the meanwhile, Chrysler is also making headlines as it is known to have recalled as many as 285,000 Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town and Country minivans owing to certain fire issues.
