Mumbai, July 14 (IANS) Europe’s leading automobile manufacturer Volkswagen Group notched a 69 percent growth in sales of its Audi, Skoda and Volkswagen brands in India this year. The three coveted brands sold 10,366 units in the last six months, against 6,131 cars sold last year during the same period, Volkswagen India president Joerg Mueller told reporters.
The group now plans to launch the Audi A4 and Volkswagen Jetta models in the Indian market this year, he said.
In view of the robust sales, the group has forecast an annual sales figure of 20,000 cars during 2008 (January-December).
“The significant increase in our sales in India reflects our growing presence in the Indian automobile market and highlights the mounting interest in our cars by the discerning Indian customer,” Mueller observed.
He added that all Volkswagen Group brands were moving ahead on the growth curve in India, as shown by the results, which have exceeded the company’s projections.
Detailing the sales breakup, Mueller said Audi sold 470, Skoda 9,665 and Volkswagen 340 cars during the first half of 2008.
