Vimal launches anti-microbial treated, odour-free fabric
July 14th, 2010 - 8:27 pm ICT by IANSGandhinagar, July 14 (IANS) Vimal, the flagship textile brand of Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries (RIL), Wednesday launched “DEO2″, an anti-microbial deo-treatment that arrests growth of fungi and bacteria on fabrics, keeping these free of odour even after day-long wearing in humid and warm climates.
Anand Parekh, president, RIL’s textile division, said all Vimal fabrics, worsted as well as PV suitings, will be treated with this anti-microbial deo treatment.
“We are working on introducing the same in shirtings within a few months,” he added.
Parekh said with this innovation, Vimal has now become the only company in the world to offer such a product.
“The anti-microbial properties are guaranteed to last 50 home washes or a period of two years and is being made available at no additional cost to consumers”, he added.
According to Parekh, RIL expects a paradigm shift in textile industry with the innovation and has also applied for patenting this technology.
“This technology developed in our facility in Ahmedabad over nine months of research and development has no imported component and the product made from it is completely safe for human skin,” he added.
The company, with a production capacity of over 20 million metres per annum, manufactures more than 12,000 design-shade combinations annually in polyester wool and woollen, polyester viscose and woollen fabrics under the Vimal brand.
RIL’s Textile Division is India’s largest manufacturer of suiting fabrics and exports a major portion of its products to some of the biggest international brands in over 58 countries.
