Videocon launches GSM service in Punjab and Haryana

Chandigarh, April 15 (IANS) The Videocon group Thursday entered the GSM mobile services market in Punjab and Haryana, and said it would invest around Rs.14,000 crore in mobile services over the next three years to increase market share.
According to Videocon officials, the launch of the services in the two states is part of the company’s plan to roll out rapidly services in 100 cities over 100 days.

“We are very delighted to launch the services in Punjab and Haryana. Over 160 million users across India have trusted the Videocon brand over the past 24 years and we want to take forward this trust in other sectors,” Venugopal Dhoot, chairman of Videocon group, told reporters here.

Videocon is aiming to cover 100 per cent of the urban population and 75 per cent of the rural population of Punjab and Haryana in the coming months. It is planning to invest Rs.800 crore in the two states.
