Vehicle sales up 8.45 percent in December
January 10th, 2012 - 10:38 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )New Delhi, Jan 10 (IANS) Total vehicles sales across categories grew by 8.45 percent in the month of December at 14,13,709 units from 13,03,516 units in December 2010, the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) said Tuesday.
Segment-wise, domestic passenger car sales increased by 8.49 percent in the month under review and stood at 1,59,325 units from 1,46,856 units in the same period of 2010.
December was the second consecutive month when automobile sales rose. The segment’s sales in November grew by seven percent, the first rise in sales after July. The sector is currently facing a slowdown due to high interest and rising fuel costs.
Meanwhile, commercial vehicles sales shot up by 14.50 percent at 72,192 units from 63,048 units in the corresponding period of 2010.
Motorcycle sales grew by 7.27 percent at 8,07,829 units from 7,53,102 units in December 2010.
The overall two-wheeler sales in December 2011 surged by 8.52 percent to 10,91,982 units from 10,06,289 units the same period.
