Using satellite imagery, Haryana to digitize land records
July 13th, 2011 - 9:05 pm ICT by IANSChandigarh, July 13 (IANS) Haryana’s land records will soon have a satellite connection.
The state government has initiated a project for digitizing and updating land records by using high resolution satellite imagery, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Mahender Pratap Singh said here Wednesday.
“The main objective of the project is to develop a modern, comprehensive and transparent land records management system,” he said.
It would pave the way for efficiency in maintenance and updation of textual records, maps, survey reports and settlement operations and registration of immovable property, the minister said.
The project would be implemented through Haryana Space Applications Centre, Hisar, which is the nodal agency in the state for remote sensing and Geographic Information System (GIS) related work, he added.
Revenue records available at the district headquarters would be digitized in an GIS environment and the same would be updated by the respective village revenue officials (patwaris) using the maps and other land records available with them, Singh said.
Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary, Revenue and Disaster Management, Raj Kumar said that satellite data was being acquired for the entire state which would be overlaid on digitized maps used to correct inaccuracies.
“This overlaying would also create the latest database about the land use, forestry, geomorphology, soil, water prospects and land degradation, for each acre of land in the state,” he said.
