US stocks rise amid IMF report, Goldman results
January 19th, 2012 - 12:45 am ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )New York, Jan 18 (IANS) US stocks opened higher Wednesday on International Monetary Fund (IMF) report and Goldman Sachs earning results.
The IMF said that it will raise its lending capacity by $500 billion to insulate the global economy against any worsening of Europe’s debt crisis, Xinhua reported.
Meanwhile, Goldman Sachs Group Inc. posted its fourth-quarter earnings Wednesday with both revenue and profit dropping significantly year-on-year, but still managed to beat the estimates.
The Dow Jones industrial average gained 60.01 points, or 0.48 percent, at 12,482.07. The Standard & Poor’s 500 was up 3.41 points, or 0.26 percent, to 1,297.85. The Nasdaq Composite Index rose 12.94 points, or 0.147percent, to 2,740.91.
