US durable goods orders rose in July
August 25th, 2011 - 11:23 am ICT by IANSWashington, Aug 25 (IANS/EFE) Durable goods orders in the US rose 4 percent in July after falling 1.3 percent the month before, the Commerce Department announced Wednesday.
The increase was greater than what had been predicted by economists, who had expected a rise of 2 percent over the previous month.
Excluding transportation goods, which are the most costly per unit, durable goods orders increased by 0.7 percent, while if defense goods are excluded, orders rose by 4.8 percent.
Transportation equipment, where demand rose for the second time in the past three months, was the area in which the greatest increase was registered, 14.6 percent, due to orders for civilian aircraft and spare parts, which increased by $3.2 billion.
However, orders for non-defense capital goods excluding aircraft, fell 1.5 percent after June’s revised 0.6 percent increase.
