Unemployment in France grows in October
November 29th, 2011 - 1:28 pm ICT by IANSParis, Nov 29 (IANS) The number of jobless people in France grew by 1.2 percent in October from a month earlier, as sluggish economic activities slowed job creation in the eurozone’s second largest economy, official figures showed Monday.
According to labour ministry figures, France registered 34,400 more jobless people last month, which raised the country’s total number of jobseekers to more than 2.81 million in France’s mainland.
If the overseas departments and workers are taken into account, there were 4.45 million people currently living without a job, up 0.4 percent, reported Xinhua.
On a yearly basis, the jobless rate rose by 4.9 percent.
“…Everyone knows they (unemployment figures) cannot be good due to the crisis from which we don’t get out yet and even intensifies on the ground,” Labour Minister Xavier Bertrand told the private broadcaster RTL.
“As the economic situation will not improve, I do not see how the employment numbers will actually improve,” he added.
