Unemployment gap in the level of education shrinks in US

Washington, Feb 20 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The unemployment rate in the United States is still high in the less educated but the gap between the group and the highly educated ones is coming. When compared to the January 2011 figures, the unemployment rate in high school dropouts dropped by 1.2 percent.

Large year’s unemployment rate among high school dropouts was 14.3 percent but the same period in 2012 was 13.1 percent. The unemployment rate in people with high school diploma also dropped to 8.4 percent from 9.4 percent a year ago. Those with some college degree moved down from 8.1 percent to 7.2 percent.

The group with the lowest unemployment rate is those with bachelor’s degree or more. The unemployment rate among the group is 4.2 percent.

The US unemployment applications dropped recently to four year low. The country recently announced that the number of people asking for unemployment benefit has gone down by 13,000.

US unemployment rates have gone down steadily over the months. In January, about 243,000 jobs were added to the economy sending the unemployment figure down to 8.3 percent.

The economy is currently recovering from the 2008 financial crash which affected most of the world’s major economies.
