UAE to restrict use of two-pin power plugs
October 29th, 2011 - 9:19 pm ICT by IANSAbu Dhabi, Oct 29 (IANS/WAM) The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will restrict in 2012 the entry and use of electrical equipment having two-pin power plugs as the country wants to implement a standard three-pin model.
The Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology (ESMA) has asked traders and manufacturers to conform to the UAE’s standard three-pin plugs to ensure safety. This requirement is expected to reduce usage of plug adaptors, which are potential fire hazards, especially when pins fit loosely in sockets causing sparks.
Mohammad Saleh Badri, ESMA acting director general, said: “Manufacturers and traders need to adopt the UAE standard for all home and office appliances sold in the UAE.”
