Abu Dhabi, June 17 (IANS) The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will host the international defence exhibition IDEX in 2009, WAM news agency reported Tuesday. IDEX is one the world’s largest defence exhibitions and the ninth edition of the show would be organised by Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC) in association with the UAE Armed Forces at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.
“ADNEC is fully committed to ensuring we deliver a world-class show in keeping with the credibility IDEX has acquired since its launch in 1993,” said ADNEC Managing Director Ahmad Humaid Al Mazrouie.
“Among the top international defence firms who have confirmed participation at IDEX 2009 are Thales, Sagem, Boeing, BAE Systems, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, Kamas Incorporated and Denel,” said IDEX 2009 Director Mohamed Al Mashgouni.
Over 900 exhibitors from 50 countries and about 100 military delegations from around the world are expected to participate in the event.
The previous IDEX in 2007 featured 862 exhibitors, 143 official delegations from 50 countries, and 27 national pavilions. Contracts worth more than $545 million were announced at the show including $380 million worth of deals by the UAE armed forces.
