August 31st, 2009 - 11:35 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Dubai, Aug 31 (IANS) The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will host the Alternative Energy Convention in October this year, WAM news agency reported.
The conference will be held at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre Oct 27-29.
The conference will discuss regional and global initiatives on carbon reduction, alternative energy initiatives and water management, among others, according to the report Sunday.
The alternative energy sector is expected to grow 25 percent annually and account for almost 70 percent of the global energy market through 2030.
The sector’s $150 billion share of the total $800 billion worldwide energy infrastructure, will rise to around $600 billion by 2030.
This year’s convention will also highlight ways to reduce and manage pollution from oil and gas industry.
“The economic downturn has reminded the world that it should plan well for the future. We still rely on traditional energy sources to generate 90 percent of our power requirements. However, most of these are non-renewable and have devastating ecological effects,” said Anselm Godino, managing director of International Conferences and Exhibitions, organisers of the Alternative Energy Convention.
“We need to turn this situation around and encourage closer collaboration among private and government entities through forums such as Alter Energy to explore sustainable solutions that can meet our energy needs while conserving our environment,” he added.
