UAE participates in global microcredit summit in Spain
November 18th, 2011 - 10:00 pm ICT by IANSValladolid (Spain), Nov 18 (IANS/WAM) UAE’s Ambassador to Spain Hessa Al-Otaiba has led the country’s delegation to the 5th Global Microcredit Summit in Valladolid, Spain.
During the four-day summit that ended Friday, the UAE ambassador met with Queen Sophia of Spain who hailed the relations between the two countries.
She also met with Bangladeshi economist and Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus who is considered a microcredit pioneer.
Yunus is the founder of the Grameen Bank that provides microcredit to poor people who possess no collateral.
Economists, experts, educators, lawyers and NGOs from over 100 countries took part.
