April 22nd, 2010 - 5:04 pm ICT by IANSAbu Dhabi, April 22 (IANS/WAM) In a major march of media technology, two newspapers published in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will now be available to their readers on mobile phones.
Readers can simply visit the websites on their mobile phones and they will be able to access the online version of the Arabic and English language newspapers without installing any software.
The Al Ittihad and The National, published by the Abu Dhabi Media Company (ADMC), released Wednesday a slate of new applications to deliver their content directly to mobile phones. The customised mobile editions and iPhone applications are free for download and are part of an initiative to expand to the world of digital publishing.
The new mobile applications will provide readers with instant, real-time access to latest local and international news, as well as columns and opinions, in a simple, easy-to-navigate manner.
“It’s been 14 years since the launch of Al Ittihad online in 1996. As new media platforms develop and technology accelerates, our readers are looking for mobility and flexibility while accessing information, and their mobile devices have become a pivotal platform,” Gavin Dickinson, executive director of publishing at ADMC, said.
