TVS to produce bikes in Bengal for eastern India
October 29th, 2011 - 11:13 pm ICT by IANSKolkata, Oct 29 (IANS) Two-wheeler major TVS Motor Company plans to manufacture bikes directly at the manufacturing facility in West Bengal for sales in eastern India, a minister said Saturday.
The Chennai-based TVS had entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Kolkata-based Mahabharat Manufacturing Pvt Ltd in 2008 under which Mahabharat Motors was assembling products as a contract manufacturer at the unit located in Uluberia in Howrah district.
“TVS was in a joint venture with Mahabharat. They (TVS) have given a letter to us. Now it will demerge from Mahabharat. The company will produce bikes directly from the manufacturing plant for selling in eastern India,” state Industry Minister Partha Chatterjee told reporters here.
According to the proposal, TVS Motors will roll out bikes from 45 acres of land out of the 63 acres within the manufacturing facility.
“This is a big news in the auto sector,” Chatterjee said.
