Tupperware to diversify into beauty, nutrition
July 15th, 2009 - 7:58 pm ICT by IANSHyderabad, July 15 (IANS) Tupperware India, a leading direct selling company, plans to diversify into beauty and nutrition and ramp up its business presence and the manufacturing of existing range of products for kitchen and home.
Tupperware managing director Asha Gupta Wednesday said the firm would enter the beauty and nutrition sectors, which had “tremendous potential”, in two to three years.
“For now, we will continue to concentrate on existing products,” Gupta told reporters on the sidelines of a recruitment session to hire 1,200 women as consultants to sell products.
Tupperware India, a part of US-based Tupperware Brands Corp, could either import beauty and nutrition products or manufacture locally.
Tupperware India, which has a turnover of Rs.200 crore (Rs.2 billion/$250 million), is confident of maintaining 32-35 percent growth during the current fiscal despite the economic slowdown.
The company plans to ramp up the manufacturing operations as both of its contract manufacturing facilities in Hyderabad were running at full capacity.
While declining to share the details, Gupta hinted that the company could set up its own manufacturing facilities or increase outsourcing.
Tupperware India has 80 distributors and 65,000 consultants, all women. “Every week, we are adding 2,000 to 3,000 women,” she said.
