Truckers threaten indefinite strike from Jan 5December 24th, 2008 - 9:15 pm ICT by IANS
New Delhi, Dec 24 (IANS) Truckers have threatened to go on a country wide indefinite strike from Jan 5 if diesel price was not slashed by Rs.8 a litre.Vinish Khanna, joint secretary of the All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC), which has called for the strike, told IANS that transporters were dissatisfied with the diesel price cut of Rs.2, announced earlier this month.
The government had earlier assured the AIMTC that it would look into the oil price issue following the steep fall in global oil prices.
The AIMTC held agitation in New Delhi Dec 10, the first day of the winter session of parliament, to press for its demand.
“There is a lot of scope for the government to reduce prices of diesel as the global crude oil prices have fallen to the 2004 levels. The cut in diesel prices does not match with the huge decline in global crude oil prices,” Khanna said.
