TRAI seeks views to boost mobile value added services
July 22nd, 2011 - 11:26 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, July 22 (IANS) The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) Friday issued a consultation paper seeking comments from stakeholders on measures required to boost growth of utility of mobile value added services (MVAS).
“Considering the market potential for mobile value added service in the coming years, a harmonized ecosystem needs to be developed for growth in all the segments of the value added service viz content development and technology platform, thereby enabling benefits to consumers and also revenue generation,” TRAI said in a statement.
“With a view to bring out all the aspects of the relevant issues and to provide a suitable platform for discussion, TRAI has initiated this consultation paper suo-motu focusing on future looking regulatory framework for provisioning of mobile value added services,” it added.
The consultation paper also seeks comments on whether the current provisions under various licences (Unified’ Access Service Licensing and basic licensing) are adequate to grow the MVAS market to the desired level.
MVAS includes services such as m-commerce, m-health, m-education and m-governance.
