TRAI regulation on unsolicited calls by October-end
October 19th, 2010 - 8:10 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Oct19 (IANS) The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) Tuesday said it will bring in a regulation by the end of this month to curb unsolicited commercial calls which have become an irritant for mobile phone users across the country.
“The job is almost complete. We are planning to come up with a regulation before the end of this month,” said J.S. Sarma, TRAI chairman.
Earlier this year the regulator had an open house discussion on the issue with various stake holders. This was one of its several attempts to curb the menace of unsolicited commercial calls, including creating “Do Not Call Registry” where subscribers who do not wish to receive unsolicited commercial calls can register.
However, there has not been much success. While the voice calls have reduced to some extent, the messages have increased considerably.
