Toys R Us Announces Its Holiday Hiring Plans For 2010
September 29th, 2010 - 7:29 pm ICT by Pen Men At WorkSeptember 29, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): Toys R Us Inc. is all set to hire 45,000 additional workers just ahead of the holiday season in the country. The number is almost 10,000 more than its normal hiring figures in the last three years. The objective of hiring such an enormous workforce is the opening of 600 temporary stores across the nation.
Of the new employees about 35,000 are likely to start working in 587 of the traditional Toys R Us stores whereas the rest amounting to 10,000 will be absorbed by the prior announced 600 Toys R Us express outlets at various shopping malls as well as similar centers. The largest toy retailer reported this last Monday.
This news comes immediately after the announcement by Macy’s Inc, the department store chain which shared its plans for hiring a total of 65,000 new employees on account of the impending holiday season. The number is slightly in excess of the number of personnel taken in last year.
Macy’s Inc also issued a statement which said that it expected the growth rate to be 3% to 3.5% during the second half of the fiscal 2010. The optimism expressed can be attributed to an increase in sales.
Jennifer McNamara, the spokesperson for Best Buys also announced its plans of hiring 29,000 people ahead of the holiday season which is more or less the same as that of last year.
The month of August proved to be lucky for U.S. retailers with their sales figures showing the largest increase in five months. It was reflected by the strong receipts at the various clothing outlets and gasoline stations.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics discloses that there was an addition of 501,400 in the retail workforce last year during the months of October, November and December.
